Rosa Parks

Early Years
In 1913 Rosa Louise McCauley was born. Her father was James McCauley, a carpenter, and her mother was Leona McCauley, a teacher, in Tuskegee, Alabama. She had a younger brother Sylvester. After her parents separated, she moved to her grandparents farm in Pine Level when she was two, with her mother and Sylvester. She went to Montgomery Industrial School for Girls when she was 11. She then graduated and went to Alabama State Teachers College.

After that Rosa Parks got married to a barber named Raymond Parks. He was an active member of the NAACP. While Rosa was married she took different jobs. She was once even a domestic worker. In the year of 1933 Rosa decided to go back to high school to receive her diploma. During the year of 1943 Rosa Parks became an active member of the Civil Rights Movement. She joined the Montgomery chapter of the NAACP, where she was a secretary. She mostly worked as a seamstress.

She came home from work on December 1st 1955. She was tired and when the bus driver asked her to move she refused. She was later arrested. Because of this Martian Luther king began a boycott against the Montgomery bus company.
